President

Dr. Brendan Lewis began his practice in orthopaedic surgery in Corner Brook in 1991. He is currently chief of Orthopaedics at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, specializing in trauma, spinal surgery, arthroplasty and sports medicine. He is also a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Memorial University. After earning his MD at Memorial University in 1983, Dr. Lewis completed a joint five-year orthopaedic residency program with MUN and Dalhousie University. In 1990, he obtained his FRCSC and successfully completed fellowship training in spinal disorders and trauma orthopaedic surgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Lewis is also a certified Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a board certified member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and has a Diploma of Sports Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine. Throughout his career Dr. Lewis has held a number of prominent positions and is a past-president of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association, the NL Orthopaedic Society, the Atlantic Provinces Orthopaedic Society and the NL Surgical Society, among others. He currently resides in Corner Brook with his wife Delores. They have two children, Danielle and Brendan.

Executive Director

Mr. Robert Ritter Mr. Ritter comes to the NLMA after 12 years as national executive director with the Canada-Israel Committee (CIC). Mr. Ritter built on his 13 years as a senior manager with Health Canada to guide the CIC through the difficult years of the Intifadah and the Gulf War. While with the CIC, Mr. Ritter implemented a strategy that effectively reversed the erosion in Canadian support for Israel.
