Conference on elder abuse set for spring 2004

A provincial conference dealing with the issue of elder abuse will take place May 27-28, 2004 at the St. John’s Holiday Inn.

     A provincial conference dealing with the issue of elder abuse will take place May 27-28, 2004 at the St. John’s Holiday Inn.
     The Faces of Elder Abuse will be an interactive experience which will explore impacts on abused older persons; raise awareness of elder abuse; identify where to access help; develop recommendations for a provincial strategy; and, provide an opportunity to learn from national and international experts.
     Those welcome to attend the conference include: health care professionals, social workers, students, representatives of professional schools, police, clergy, home care administrators, home support workers, older persons, equality seeking advocates, and leaders from the community and government.
     The conference is presented by the Seniors Resource Centre in partnership with Justice Canada’s National Crime Prevention Centre, the Department of Health and Community Services, Avalon Chapter of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons and the International Federation on Aging.
