The results of the 2009 NLMA
membership survey indicate that the majority of members are
satisfied with NLMA services. Not surprisingly, 99 per cent of
respondents felt the negotiations strategy was either very or
somewhat important, while 85 per cent said they were very or
somewhat satisfied with the negotiations strategy.
In addition, members reported a high
satisfaction for assistance related to compensation support services
including fee-for-service assistance, salaried assistance and
alternative payment plan and non-insured services assistance, which
received high satisfactory approval ratings.
When survey respondents were asked whether
members felt the NLMA kept physicians informed about the issues facing
the Association and physicians of the province, 87 per cent either
agreed or strongly agreed. In addition, 82 per cent felt that
considering the recent actions by the government with individual
physician groups, the NLMA is needed more than ever to unite physicians
and speak with one voice.
The survey results also indicate that
members are placing a higher value on electronic NLMA communications as
opposed to paper. Ninety-three per cent of respondents to the survey
agreed the NLMA website was important, representing a gradual increase
since 2005. Additionally, 96 per cent said they were satisfied with the
e-Update and 90 per cent were satisfied with NLMA electronic bulletins.
A greater number of members are also using the online version of the
Nexus newsletter, with 85 per cent of members who said it was important
while only 67 per cent said the print version was important.
However, despite the high percentage of
members who assigned importance to electronic communication, there are
approximately 380 practicing members in the province who have not opted
to receive the e-Update and other communications electronically. Most
respondents to the survey who said they do not receive communications
electronically, said they preferred the paper version. Others cited
concerns over privacy and security or lack of access to a computer or
Internet connection. The 2009 survey also revealed that 18 per cent of
respondents have not opted to receive e-mail notifications because they
are unaware that the option exists.
The NLMA would like to remind members that
they can submit their e-mail address to the NLMA via
e-mail or via the
website. If you do not have an
e-mail address through your employer or Internet service provider, you
can sign up for a free account with such as vendors as
Yahoo!,
Hotmail or
Gmail.
