CISTI adds new medical, health titles collection

The Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information is pleased to announce the recent addition of 135 new medical and health journals to its collection.

The Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI) is pleased to announce the recent addition of 135 new medical and health journals to its collection. CISTI is committed to providing better access to medical information for the health sciences communities it serves.

“Adding these new journals to CISTI’s collection enables us to provide healthcare providers and practitioners, scientists, patients and librarians with timely access to a broader range of health-related information,” said Bernard Dumouchel, Director General, CISTI.

The decision to add new titles is primarily based on growing client demand. A collection gap analysis identified those titles that were often requested through document delivery, but not available at CISTI. The decision was reinforced by feedback from the Committee on Health Sciences Information (CHSI), an advisory committee to CISTI. CHSI members are drawn from Canada’s major health and medical library associations.

“CISTI selected leading industry journals, thanks to this review process,” explained Beverly Brown, special projects coordinator, information delivery systems. “For example, CISTI is now subscribing to a number of expert review and current reports titles, as well as current opinion journals — all key publications not readily available in Canada before.”

The CISTI collection of scientific, technical and medical information already includes more than 10,000 medical serial titles and 340 pharmaceutical journals. The collection covers 70 per cent of Medline’s indexed journals. Of the new titles, 33 are indexed in CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature), 90 per cent are indexed for Medline and PubMed, and 60 per cent are indexed in CISTI Source.

Through access to a broader selection of medical and health titles, CISTI is improving its support to health sciences research conducted by medical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical researchers in academic, government and private sector organizations.

You can order documents and articles from any item in CISTI’s collection online, including the expanded health sciences collection. A full list of the recently added medical and health journal titles is also available.
