Following are resolutions arising from this
year's annual general meeting and approved by the Board of
Directors. Some of the resolutions have been referred to NLMA
committees, where appropriate, as directed by the AGM or the Board
of Directors.
- That the 2004 regular
membership fee be increased to $1,600.
- That in light of the
extraordinary expenses incurred by the NLMA in the past fiscal
year related to job action, that the CMA be requested to fund
our operational deficit.
- That the NLMA support
the labeling of alcoholic beverages sold in Canada which would
say: Warning - Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause birth
defects. (Referred to the Health Care and Promotion Committee.)
- That the NLMA inform
government and union leaders that there will be a charge of at
least $10 for any form for drug coverage for their "Blue
Cross plan" and a further $25 for any forms for
certification for ongoing coverage of any drug that they agree
to cover. (Referred to the Non-Insured Services Committee.)
- That the NLPDP be
requested to allow at least one month prescription to all
recipients in their program before denying recipients further
prescriptions, in order to allow time to determine the patient's
eligibility for further benefits.
- That the NLMA executive
committee, board and GP Section study the implementation of a
maximum daily volume (similar to BC with a limit of visits
before proration of fees paid) for fee-for-service family
physicians in this province. The committee would be able to
advise on the consequences of such an action and any
difficulties with implementation. Further to this study, a set
of concrete proposals must be presented to the membership,
either at the next NLMA annual general meeting, or by that time,
through a ballot vote sent to the affected membership. (Referred
to Committee on Health Policy and Economics.)

the Minister of Health and Community Services increase funding
to Memorial University Medical School to increase by 10 the
number of first-year seats available to Newfoundland and
Labrador students.

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to include all of the
National Advisory Committee on Immunizations recommended
immunizations in the routine provincial schedule, at no cost,
for children. (Referred to the Physician Services Liaison
Committee.)
- That the NLMA oppose any
efforts by the Council of Minor Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador
to remove the current mandatory full facial protection for all
minor hockey players.
- That the NLMA endorse,
in principle, the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Network as
proposed in the NLCHI Project Scope, and request the Government
of Newfoundland and Labrador to approve and resource the
development and implementation of the pharmacy network in the
current fiscal year. (Referred to the Physician Services Liaison
Committee.)
