In April 2005, the provincial
government transformed 14 health and community services boards into
four regional integrated health authorities — Eastern, Central,
Western and Labrador-Grenfell.
Eastern Health
is now the largest integrated health organization in Newfoundland and
Labrador created from the merger of these seven former health care
organizations:
-
Avalon Health Care Institutions Board
-
Clarke’s Beach Pentecostal Senior
Citizen’s Home
-
Eastern Health and Community Services
-
Health and Community Services St.
John’s
-
Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and
Research Foundation
-
Peninsulas Health Care Corporation
-
St. John’s Nursing Home Board
-
Health Care Corporation of St. John’s
Dr. Robert Williams is the new
vice-president, quality, diagnostic and medical services for Eastern
Health. “As we move towards fully integrating the new organization,
there may be changes that affect the way we do business. However, our
focus continues to be on providing the best possible care to our
patients, residents, families and communities.”
Over the coming months, physicians will
notice that the foundational boards will drop their old names and
identities and adopt Eastern Health. In addition, many services are will
also integrate to better serve physicians and their patients.
