24-30 is Pap Test Awareness Week and the Cervical Screening
Initiatives will be launching a new look and a new slogan; “Cervical
Screening Initiatives, Get With The Program, Have A Pap Test!”
The
Pap smear takes only a few minutes and done yearly can save a
woman’s life. No women should die from this disease. However, in
Newfoundland and Labrador the mortality rate of cervical cancer is
more than double the national rate.
During
Pap Test Awareness Week physicians are encouraged to take the
opportunity to offer a quick health reminder to women in their
practice or provide a brochure to help raise the awareness of the
importance of yearly Pap screening.
