A new guide to help service providers identify possible cases of elder abuse and make the appropriate referrals is currently being developed at the Seniors Resource Centre. Recognizing a professional's busy workload, Looking Beyond the Hurt will provide a concise overview of the indicators of elder abuse, relevant legislation, and regional resources for seniors.
Funded by the National Crime Prevention Centre, this important project also has the support of the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association; the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador; the Pharmacist's Association of Newfoundland and Labrador; the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers; the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapists; the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Occupational Therapists; the Council for Licensed Practical Nurses; the School of Medicine, MUN; the School of Nursing, MUN; the School of Pharmacy, MUN; the School of Social Work, MUN; the Dietitians of Newfoundland and Labrador; the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary; and, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
If you would be interested in being part of the field testing for this guide or would like a copy of it when it is published next spring, please e-mail your contact information to Beyond the Hurt.
