Award
What is the CMA Honorary Life
Membership Award? The CMA Honorary Life Membership Award is an
honour bestowed on those who have been nominated by their
provincial/territorial medical associations and have had their
nominations approved unanimously by the Board of Directors of the
Canadian Medical Association (CMA). The nominees are held in high
regard by their colleagues; they are humanitarians who have put into
practice the aims and ideals of the profession. They are people who
exemplify the words of the CMA Coat of Arms: Integriate et
misericordia — integrity and compassion.
What are the criteria for the
Award? Criteria for the Award include:
- 65 years of age or older and
retired from active practice; and,
- Active membership in the
Canadian Medical Association for at least 10 years.

2010 Recipient
Dr. Kim E. M. Hong During Kim Hong's 36-year career as a
radiation oncologist, he cared for thousand of Newfoundland and
Labrador patients and their families. He was known for his
outstanding commitment to patients, as well as for his expertise in
teaching medical staff, students and nurses about all aspects of
cancer treatment and care. In 2000, the Newfoundland Cancer
Treatment and Research Foundation established the Dr. Kim Hong
Endowment Fund for continuing education opportunities for
non-medical staff. He retired in 2007. |
