Dr. Callahan discovered her passion for medicine while volunteering at St. Clare’s Hospital during high school. Following two years of study at Memorial University, she was accepted into medical school and completed her degree in 1977, followed by two years of family practice residency, which she completed in 1979. She then spent the summer working as an Emergency Physician at the Janeway Children’s Hospital before opening her own practice. Her calling to practice family medicine was triggered largely by the patient interaction and her desire and commitment to providing continuity of care for people throughout their lives. Dr. Callahan is a former Board Chair (2006-07) and Honorary Treasurer (2005-06) of the NLMA Board of Directors. She also served two terms on the Board from 1989-91 and from 2001-03. Dr. Callahan currently resides in St. John’s and has three children, Maria, John and Katie. |
