NLMA H1N1 Pandemic President's Letters

H1N1 Pandemic - Bulletin #7
November 9, 2009 A number of you have contacted the NLMA with questions about accessing additional personal protective equipment as supplies are depleted in your offices. The Department of Health, through the regional health authorities, has made some personal protective equipment available to physicians’ offices for the care of patients with potential H1N1 influenza illness.

Antiviral Stockpile Access Discontinued (PDF)
Posted April 5, 2010
Effective immediately, antiviral medications will no longer be accessible for treatment of H1N1 pandemic influenza. We do not anticipate a “third wave” of H1N1 pandemic influenza because of the high level of vaccine coverage that has been achieved in this province and since December there has been little influenza activity across the country. Consequently, the Department of Health and Community Services will be calling back the stock that has been positioned in pharmacies and Eastern Health facilities.

Provincial Government Advisories

Mass Immunization Clinics Open to General Public
November 20, 2009 Effective immediately, all individuals will be eligible to receive the H1N1 vaccine, the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Health and Community Services, announced today. Students in Grades 10 to 12 will receive the vaccine beginning next week within the school system, where possible.

Clinical management of human infection with pandemic influenza (H1N1) 2009: Revised guidance  (PDF)
Posted November 19, 2009 In October 2009, WHO convened an international consultation represented by all WHO Regions, in Washington, DC, USA, to revise the guidance on clinical management of patients with pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection. Experts in public health, laboratory science, pathology, and clinical care came together to review the published evidence to date and to share unpublished data. This document incorporates the knowledge made available to WHO and updates previous WHO guidance.
