New Clinical Management Guidelines for Cervical Screening Liquid based cytology replaces conventional Pap cytology method In a recent GP Section Bulletin and news release it was announced that the Department of Health and Community Services has replaced the existing conventional Pap cytology method with liquid based cytology (LBC), a change that will greatly improve cervical screening in the province. The NLMA endorses both LBC and the new Clinical Management Guidelines (PDF). On February 19, 2007, a resource kit with information on specimen collection, additional information on HPV and the specific transition date, as well as educational materials on this new screening technology, the new clinical management guidelines for cervical screening and answers to some of physicians most frequently answered questions about this new screening procedure were mailed to family physicians across the province. Additional copies are available from the Cervical Screening Initiatives Program. On February 20, 2007, Dr. Susan King, medical advisor to the Cervical Screening Initiatives Program participated in a news conference to launch LBC and promote routine cervical screening.
