Pap clinic grants

The Cervical Screening Initiatives Program is offering “Access to
Service” grants to physician offices that have a desire to provide
additional clinics for Pap testing. The grants are available to
support expenses such as additional clerical support for clinics
hosted outside regular office hours, additional clerical support for
calling patients in who have been identified to be under screened,
training for RNs to work in Pap clinics, designing invitation
systems and postage for letters of invitation. There is no physician
salary compensation available. Further information is available by

Health H1N1 Flu Virus Update
Last Week for H1N1 Clinic in St. John’s

Posted February 4, 2010 Eastern Health advises the public
that next week will be the last opportunity to receive the H1N1
vaccine at the mass immunization clinic located at
Suite 203 Outpatient Services, 35 Major’s Path.
The clinic will be open on a walk-in basis, Monday, February 8th -
Friday, February 12th, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. each day. As of Monday,
February 15th, the H1N1 vaccine will be available only by booking an
appointment at any local community health office in the Eastern
region between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Reminder for billing non-insured services - 80% premium on 2009 MCP fees

NLMA Physician’s Guide to Billing Non-insured
Services
(PDF) recommends that non-insured services rates should be calculated by increasing the current MCP rates by 80 per cent (i.e. current MCP rate x 80% = NLMA N.I.). The current MCP Payment Schedule rates are effective April, 2009 and the 2009 MCP Payment Schedule can be downloaded from
MCP’s
website. Please ensure that your billing clerks are aware of this process and are using the 2009 MCP Payment Schedule as the base to calculate non-insured services rates.

February 15, 2010 Renewing your 2010 NLMA membership online is easy, secure and
ONLY available for Full, Retired, Non-Resident,
Resident, and Student categories; other categories please refer to
your paper invoice (mailed early January), or contact the NLMA.
In accordance with the
Medical Act,
membership in the NLMA is compulsory to practice in the province of
Newfoundland and Labrador. Failure to renew by
February 15 renders your license null and void and will
subject you to late payment charges.

2010 Gerry Lynch Memorial
Scholarship

Application Deadline
March 16, 2010 The Gerry Lynch Memorial Scholarship is awarded
annually to a third (NEW FOR 2010) or fourth year medical student at
Memorial University for the completion of a research paper on a
medical/political topic. Gerry Lynch (1936-1994) served as Executive
Director of the NLMA for 27 years. This scholarship’s focus reflects
the contribution Mr. Lynch made to health care policy, both
provincially and nationally.
